Huxley, IA (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

Kreg Deck Jig manufactured by Kreg Tool Company, recently received an evaluation report (ESR#3258) from ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), providing evidence that this concealed deck fastening system from Kreg meets code requirements. Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and others utilize ICC-ES Evaluation Reports to provide a basis for using or approving Kreg Deck Jig in construction projects under the 2009 International Building Code (IBC) and the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC).

ICC-ES President Mark Johnson explains why ICC-ES Evaluation Reports are so important. “Kreg Tool Company can now reference the evaluation report to ensure building officials and the building industry that the product meets I-Code requirements,” Johnson said. “Building departments have a long history of using evaluation reports, and ICC-ES operates as a technical resource for the building department. Final approval of building products is always in the hands of the local regulatory agency.”

ICC-ES thoroughly examined Kreg Tool Company’s product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods and other factors to ensure the product is code-compliant. “This is a culmination of a lot of hard work and effort by our employees and the ICC-ES,” said Kreg President Todd Sommerfeld. “Our customers already know how great the Deck Jig is for surfacing decks – now they can enjoy additional confidence that comes with meeting ICC-ES code requirements.”

A nonprofit, limited liability company, ICC-ES is the United States’ leading evaluation service for innovative building materials, components and systems. ICC-ES Evaluation Reports (ESRs) and PMG Listings provide evidence that products and systems meet requirements of codes and technical standards. ICC-ES also issues environmental reports verifying that products meet specific sustainability targets defined by today’s codes, standards, green rating systems and ICC-ES guidelines. ICC-ES is a subsidiary of the International Code Council® (ICC®). For more information, please visit http://www.icc-es.org.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2012

Bar Stools For Less, Inc. is in the final stages of composing the next installment of its ‘Tip Sheets.’ The retailer of discount bar stools is confident that the information resource will be well received by customers.

A company spokesperson from the website said, “We are all about information. In conjunction with offering webinars and detailed individual responses to customer emails, the company has a strong tradition of idea sharing. The next planned e-mail tip sheet is another continuation of this trend and one that we hope continues to be popular.”

The tip sheet will contain information shared by customers and expert advice from design consultants at the company. Ideas such as décor, color combinations, styles, inspirations and material sources will be covered.

Practical advice on fabric care will also be given center stage. “Our customers are very good at sharing information and it is often so valuable that we think other customers would benefit from knowing it too. For example, one shopper discovered by accident that a certain product was damaging to chrome, and wanted to warn others to stay away from it if they too had bar stools made from chrome. “

A customer of BarStoolsForLess.com, Jessica Hern from McLean, VA said, “I am on the company mailing list and really look forward to receiving the next tip sheet. I love anything to do with design, interiors and furniture and am always happy to learn new tricks and tips about renovations and anything crafty. As I don’t work in the design world, the tip sheets and other similar internet resources are a great way for me to expand my knowledge and indulge in my hobby. I’ll be especially interested to learn about trends for the next season, straight from the mouths of furniture designers themselves.”

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) May 09, 2012

Hardly a month goes by without a natural disaster taking center stage on the evening news. Hurricanes, mudslides, tornadoes, earthquakes, wild fires and floods now seem as commonplace as a winter Nor’Easter or summer heat wave. But despite their frequency, the stories of devastation these disasters bring to families, both two- and four-legged, are never anything short of shocking. In honor of Animal Disaster Preparedness Day, May 12, No. 1-rated Petplan pet insurance is encouraging pet parents everywhere to create a “disaster-proof” plan for the whole family.

“As the old saying goes, ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,’ and that’s certainly true when it comes to weathering the storm of a natural disaster,” says Petplan VP of Veterinary Services Dr. Jules Benson. “When creating an emergency plan for the family, be sure to include a ‘pet plan’ as well, so you’ll be able to keep two- and four-legged family members safe and calm, whether you simply lose power temporarily or need to evacuate completely.”

Whether you live in a high-risk area or a locale known for clear skies, Animal Disaster Preparedness Day offers the perfect opportunity to formulate a plan. To help, Petplan offers the following tips to help pet parents keep their two- and four-legged family members safe:

I.D. me!: In the event of a natural disaster, or even a house fire, a collar showing clear, up-to-date ID is crucial. Also, make sure your pets are microchipped. Microchips never fade, scratch or fall off (or out), and most shelters and veterinary clinics are equipped with a microchip reader. Microchipping significantly increases the odds that you can be reunited with your pet if you are separated during a disaster.

Stockpile supplies: Pack a well-stocked bin of pet supplies that you can grab and go in a hurry. Stock enough food and drinking water for two to three days, plus leashes, litter and litter trays. Also, keep handy a pet carrier or travel crate, should you need to leave home in a hurry.

The whole kit and caboodle: A first aid kit should always be part of a disaster plan, and can work for two- and four-legged family members alike. Pack a kit containing bandages, bandage scissors and tape, antibiotic ointment, eye rinse, alcohol prep pads, milk of magnesia, hydrogen peroxide, a digital thermometer and tweezers. Also, fill a watertight bag with copies of each pet’s medical/vaccination records, as well as a current photo.

Have a list? Check!: In the midst of calamity, it could be difficult to remember everything, so keep an up-to-date list of all the items you’ll need at a moment’s notice. Be sure your supplies are stored in a convenient place for easy access in an emergency.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 06, 2012

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This recognition helps raise the awareness of the severity of this issue in the United States. There are a number of San Diego County non-profit organizations that assist children in need. This includes Voices for Children that does exactly what their name implies; provides a voice to children who otherwise would not be heard. Voices for Children trains volunteers to be Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASAs, then matches them with children who are at risk largely due to inadequate parental support. These children have endured traumatic experiences, including abuse and neglect. They are often in foster care, but may be with the state or even living at home. Pat Hook, co-owner of Source Capital, a private lender in Rancho Bernardo, has been serving as a volunteer CASA with Voices for Children, since 2007.

The experience of being a CASA, “opens our eyes to what is in our own back yard,“ says Hook. “Children in need are all over San Diego County; boys, girls, younger, older.” He continues, “you get to know the child you are matched with. You take them on an outing every other weekend.“ The amount of time required to volunteer as a CASA varies, but is generally between eight and fifteen hours per month. To help the court better understand the condition of the child, CASAs are their eyes and ears. This includes letting the court know how a child feels in their current situation, how they are doing in school and if they need clothes, braces or other things that need to be provided.

According to Hook, there is a great need for more volunteers. Males are especially sought to support the many boys still on a waiting list. To learn more about Voices for Children San Diego and their life changing CASA program, visit their website at http://www.voices4children.com/ or call 858-569.2019.

Costa Mesa, California (PRWEB) May 01, 2012

Leading Edge Aviation Services (LEAS), the largest commercial and military aircraft painting company in the world, today announced it has won the prestigious 2012 MRO of the Year Award for Innovative Service Supplier.

Leading Edge received the award at a special ceremony during Aviation Week’s MRO Americas Conference & Exhibition at the Dallas Convention Center on April 2, 2012. Among the innovative accomplishments that Leading Edge was selected for were its ground-breaking work supporting the United-Continental livery transition, in which the entire fleet of 671 aircraft will be refinished in just 24-36 months, and its selection by Boeing to paint the new 787 Dreamliners coming out of Charleston.

“Our winners provide exemplary models for business leadership, especially with regard to smart expansion and sustainable energy,” said Lee Ann Tegtmeier, editor-in-chief of Overhaul & Maintenance. “They have made significant contributions to military and commercial fleet readiness, have championed new technologies, and are driving efficiency through innovation. Leading Edge did just that, providing innovative paint solutions that saved United in excess of five million dollars over the course of the program. We are proud to honor this achievement.”

Conceived more than 50 years ago, Aviation Week’s awards have since grown to become the most coveted awards in the aviation industry. Today, they signify global excellence, recognizing the extraordinary achievements of individuals and teams in aerospace, aviation and defense.

Reports of sexual exploitation, human trafficking and forced prostitution are all too common. In addition to the typical traumas of war, girls are subjected to unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and social stigma making it difficult, if not impossible, to reintegrate back into their communities.

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

(MissionNewswire) Salesians are fighting the recruitment of child soldiers—even girls—in Sri Lanka, and working to heal the wounds of those forced to take part in the country’s civil war.

“Childhood should be a time of innocence and schooling,” says Father Mark Hyde, director of Salesian Missions. “But that’s not the reality for youth in Sri Lanka being recruited to fight the country’s civil war. For these youth, it’s weapons and war rather than school books and play.”

While the civil war’s official end came in May 2009, the recruitment of child soldiers continues to rise according to Douglas Devanada, Minister for Tamil Social Services. He quotes reliable sources that say that the LTTE (the rebel group of the Tamil Tigers in the north of Sri Lanka) aims to recruit about 60,000 children in the north of the country.

The recruitment and use of child soldiers in the country’s civil war has gone on for years in Sri Lanka. Fewer children are attending school due both to fighting the war and the fear of falling into the hands of the rebel army on the way to school. Some children have limited defenses to resist recruitment efforts. Others faced with poverty, lack of education and few job prospects see little alternative to joining.

Child soldiers are used for various purposes in the civil war that has raged through the country for a little more than 20 years. While some are fighters, others act as scouts and guides and man checkpoints. Others run errands or cook and clean for the armed forces. Some of the most unfortunate are used as suicide bombers. Gender and age offer no protection against recruitment efforts. Some children have been as young as eight years old. And girls can face an even tougher time than their male peers.

Girls are used as soldiers in the same way as boys, but they also face gender-based violence. Reports of sexual exploitation, human trafficking and forced prostitution are all too common. In addition to the typical traumas of war, girls are subjected to unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and social stigma making it difficult, if not impossible, to reintegrate back into their communities.

In the wake of this ongoing trauma, the Salesians continue their work with child soldiers in Sri Lanka. A rehabilitation center in Colombo, which was first opened to assist “at risk” street children and young victims of sexual abuse has in recent years worked with child soldiers providing therapy and job skills training. Subsequently, other Salesian Missions rehabilitation centers have opened throughout the country working to help more and more child soldiers reintegrate back into their communities and move forward with their lives.

In addition, the Salesians operate Mary Help of Christians House in Negombo, Sri Lanka, which is home to 173 girl soldiers. This rehabilitation center is run by Salesian Sisters who realized that these girls had no place to turn. In addition to offering the basics of food, clothing and shelter, the sisters focus on the physical and psychological health of the girls. Their dedication and support has enabled the girls to come a long way in the past few years. Nearly half of them are attending classes between the 6th and 8th grade levels, while several of the older girls are taking professional courses.

Physical wounds heal over time but the emotional and psychological wounds that both male and female child soldiers face can take a lifetime to heal. The emotional support, education and job placement provided by the Salesians plays a large role in helping youth come to terms with their circumstances and preparing them for a brighter future.

City of Los Angeles and PlayCore officials congratulate Ramon Barajas (Center) winner of 2012 Hero Award

Chattanooga TN (PRWEB) April 27, 2012

The first annual PlayCore Hero winner was recently announced in Long Beach CA. PlayCore, a Chattanooga based company that promotes its mission and values by giving back to communities in a variety of ways, wanted to create a vehicle to reward the inspirational people they meet throughout the course of business. Bob Farnsworth, PlayCore CEO explains, “We are continually inspired by the people we encounter, people who have made a career of giving back selflessly, with complete dedication to improving the communities they serve. These are the true heroes of any community –spending their time in the trenches with no expectation of recognition, in order to make a difference. Their dedication mirrors PlayCore’s mission and values, so we wanted to find a way to recognize them and honor their commitment.”

PlayCore chose Ramon Barajas, Superintendent of Maintenance Operations for the Department of Recreation and Parks, City of Los Angeles. Mr. Barajas oversees all City-wide maintenance, forestry, landscape, and irrigation, divisions that work on 435 parks on over 16,000 acres of parkland in the City of Los Angeles. Ramon also manages multi-million dollar construction projects for the department. He is currently working along with his colleagues on the 50 Park Initiative. This is a project to develop 50 new parks in neighborhood where a large percentage of the residents do not live in close proximity to a park or recreational facility. Along with managing the budget and overseeing over 700 full time staff, Mr. Barajas is the liaison between Recreation and Parks and City Officials. Mr. Barajas helps in writing grants and continues to be heavily involved in many of the City’s urban youth programs.

He began his 29-year career with the City of Los Angeles as a Gardener Caretaker. Due to his excellent work ethic and diligence, always going far above and beyond the call of duty, he was promoted through the ranks to the position he currently holds. Mr. Barajas is also a dedicated family man, adoptive father, and inspiration to all who know him, who puts his customary 110% effort into ensuring that his dedication to work and family are balanced.

The award was presented at the 2012 California Parks and Recreation Training Conference in Long Beach California. As part of the award, PlayCore will make a $ 1500 donation to Ramon’s charity of choice in support of the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Mr. Barajas has asked that the donation be made in the name of his nephew, Christopher Elijah Chavez, who passed away from cancer and received care at the hospital.
New York City, New York (PRWEB) April 22, 2012

Experts say that just ten minutes of daily mental stimulation can make a huge difference to the brain’s capacity and recall ability. With this in mind, Ultimate Memory™ uncovers some interesting opportunities that anyone can exploit in the pursuit of a sharp mind:

The Daily Commute

With Americans often commuting for over ninety minutes each day, the team behind Ultimate Memory™ place it at the top of their list as a time for stimulation. They urge commuters travelling by public transportation to indulge in number and mind games such as Sudoku, word searches and riddles.

Those behind the wheel are not forgotten, either. Ultimate Memory™ suggests that listening to thought-provoking audio or complicated short stories can have a positive effect over time.

Lunch Hour

For even the slowest of eaters, the traditional lunch hour always presents a void of boredom. Ultimate Memory™ suggests that any down-time should be used solving puzzles, debating involved topics with co-workers or reading global news in a daily paper.

The Evening ‘Lull’

With the belly full and the dishwasher loaded, Evenings can often become a search-fest for something to do. With most homes containing a computer, Ultimate Memory™ suggests setting time aside each night to work through memory-training software.

In fact, the company is perfectly suited to help with the latter. Having created one of the world’s leading memory improvement software packages, Ultimate Memory™ is quickly becoming the program of choice for those looking to keep their mind sharp as life progresses.

As the Managing Director of eReflect, the company behind Ultimate Memory™ explains, effective memory training doesn’t have to be a drawn-out chore:

“More and more research is showing that just ten minutes of daily concentrated brain training is all that is required to make a real difference to how the mind works” says Marc Slater.

He continues, “Research is also shedding light on patterns of age-related memory degradation. Therefore, it has never been more important for everyone to find time to keep their mind active in the pursuit of better brain health.”

More information about the Ultimate Memory™ software package can be found online at:

About Ultimate Memory™

Scientifically proven to improve memory with as little as ten minute’s user per day, Ultimate Memory™ is also backed by an iron-clad guarantee.

Port Charlotte, Florida (PRWEB) April 19, 2012

The project contest is open to all customers of TheMoldStore.com who used the company’s concrete molds to make their own custom stone, tile, pavers, or brick veneer at home. Photos or videos of customers’ projects are submitted by them and the company places them on their dedicated contest website, where the general public votes for their favorite projects. Contest voters have chances of winning a $ 25.00 Free Lunch each month during the contest, and a $ 500.00 Shopping Spree on the company website for their participation at the end of the contest.

According to Olde World Stone and Tile Molds, Inc. President, John Panagos, “we conceived of this contest to illustrate how a typical homeowner could make their own concrete stone, pavers, tile and brick veneer products right at home and save 90% of the retail cost by doing it themselves. I must admit that even after over 20 years in this business, I was surprised at the professional results most of our customers’ projects exhibited.” He then added, “When you consider that most customers, both male and female, had never worked with concrete or concrete molds before, their project results were amazing. We are proud to showcase yet one more example of good old American ingenuity.”

Just like “Dancing with the Stars”, “The Voice”, and “American Idol”, voters can support a home town contestant and help them win by voting for their do-it-yourself project entry. And voters have a chance to win a monthly $ 25.00 Free Lunch at a restaurant of choice, or a Shopping Spree on TheMoldstore Shopping Cart website for their efforts. And since this year’s contest ends this month, the wait for the results won’t be long. Why not visit the website and get some great ideas for a home or garden project to enter into TheMoldStore.com, 2012 Customer Project Contest starting this summer?

TheMoldStore.com manufactures and markets concrete molds that allows homeowners and other do-it-yourselfers, landscapers, gardeners, and builders to make their own custom concrete products for about 10% of normal retail prices of similar items. Their customer base is both men and women, with women holding a slight edge in numbers. Complete instructions and support are provided, including a free dedicated Training and Instructions website. There is also additional training available should the customer want to start a full or part-time business making these products locally. Complete business start-up information is available on their Business Opportunity website.
